It’s not very often that you see AE86s on the road, and when you do, they’re usually either a beat up drift missile or some old rust bucket. You do get to see the occasional good looking AE, but never have I seen one so well looked after. I got word from my apprentice that he had a mate with a clean AE86, so I had to see it for myself. After getting into contact with Aaron and organising a time to meet him, I was eager to see if the rumors were true.
Matyas and I rocked up to the location to be met with this beauty. Much time and effort has gone into this car making it not just pretty to look at, but actually used for what it was built for. Aaron was happy enough to give us his build list and share all the hard work that has gone into it. Let me show you.
ENGINE
- Engine: Turbo 4AGE 20V silver top
- Forged CP 40thou pistons with stock rods
- King race bearings main & bigend
- 1mm oversize valves & valve springs with genuine Toyota valve collets
- Cometic metal head gasket
- ARP head studs
- 540CC Bosh injectors
- Bosch 044 external fuel pump
- Bosch ignition coil pack
- Turbosmart dual stage boost controller
- Microtech LT10s ECU
- 10mm Topgun leads
- Custom made forward-facing intake plenum
- K&N pod filter (oiled)
- Big front mount intercooler with custom 2.5″ piping
- 16 row oil cooler (same colour as car) with Speedflow braided lines & oil relocation kit from block to guard
- Oil catch can with braided lines & crank breathers
- Garrett T25 ball bearing turbo
- Tial 38mm external waste gate with screamer pipe and stronger spring
- Custom made air box & plumb back blow-off valve
- 3″ turbo back exhaust straight through sitting in line with chassis rails and twin 2.5″ pig pipes
- Stainless steel hi-flow catalytic converter
- BA Falcon air bypass for cold start up
She may have a tight bay but everything fits perfectly. It was quite interesting to see all the custom work that is in the engine bay. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a show car, but rather one done properly to be completely functional and practical. In my books, that’s what makes it sick!

- Autogauge: oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, boost, air fuel ratio
- HKS turbo timer
It was good to see he was running genuine Brides and Takata harnesses. They made the interior look incredible and with the hydro hand brake, it had that real Initial D feeling to it!
