Living down under in Australia, we are often neglected with the presence of registrable hypercars. There are a few rarities around the country such as the Aston Martin One-77 and Koenigsegg CCX however none of the 3 latest hybrid hypercars, the La Ferrari, P1, or 918 are able to be registered in the country.
Therefore, I was really excited to see Easton Chang’s coverage in the outback of the Porsche 918, but when I was informed of the car coming to Porsche Centre Brisbane, I was immediately in contact to get some one on one time with this potentially once in a lifetime viewing.
The Porsche 918 has a 4.6L NA V8 motor pushing 608hp…
… As well as two electic motors generating a combined 279hp.
With a total of 887hp, the 918 has the least amount of total HP out of the ‘Big 3’ mentioned previously, however it can certainly hold its own amongst them, especially with its AWD system.
This particular version has the Weissach package which includes;
– 36kg weight reduction
– Special film wrap (the one pictured is the Salzburg race design)
– 918 Spyder magnesium wheels (14.9kg saving)
– Weight optimised brake system with titanium components
– Wheel bearings with ceramic balls
– A CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic) anti roll bar on rear axle and prop on the luggage compartment
– Carbon weave finish on interior
– Alcantara steering wheel, armrest & centre console
– Seat upholstery in flame retardant fabric, door opening loops in black leather as well as a six point safety harness
There is carbon literally everywhere.
With all the super technical automotive and engineering advancements on the 918, one of my favourite pieces are the leather door loops.
Porsche C-GT being looked over by its successor.
Rear top mounted exhausts.
I really love what Porsche have done with the details and styling of the 918. esecially the lights.
The 918 rocks monstrous 6 piston 406mm brakes up the front, and 4 piston 391mm brakes on the rear. How about those magnesium, centre lock wheels though!?
The wheels are 20 x 9.5 on the front, with 21 x 12.5 on the rear! Wrapped in 325/30/21 Michellin rubber, traction is not an issue.
The alcantara/carbon fibre interior is aggressive and beautiful all in one.
Thank you once again to Porsche Centre Brisbane for letting us have some time with such a special car.
