This is a late batch of pics I know, I have been caught up with work, family shit and also some other big things that popped up for Downshift. I am now going back over all the events I never got around to posting. So throughout January keep an eye out if there was a particular even you never saw posted.
I was heading out to this particular sprint day as it was meant to be the last time my mate Bobby was racing his EJ8 Civic, so I headed out to do a photoshoot and get some shots of it carving the shit out of Queensland Raceway. What I did not expect was the amount of Hondas that turned out for the day, it was almost laughable at how much they outnumbered everything else. Also the fact that so many bros rolled out made the day even better. It is always a much better day when a tonne of friends are together for laughs and to just talk all things automotive. A few of the boys were racing as well.
As soon as we got there, it seemed everyone was crowding around one particular S2000. The last time I saw the ’97HOU’ S2000 was probably 2 years ago at a JDM meet, back when they were much, much smaller and he was rolling on 5Zigens. It is pretty obvious why everyone was crowding around it. Carbon roof, carbon flares & those massive Advan RZs. Had a brief chat with the owner, who was a really nice dude. Hopefully get a future shoot of this thing.
He was there with his mate who also owned an S2000, much less hardcore but very clean nonetheless. The Spa Yellow just pops so much and rolling on those OZ Superleggeras, it was a very well put together S2k.
After that the rest of the usual suspects rocked up and we milled around chatting before the drivers’ briefing was held. As you can see Bobby’s EJ8 is all class, so fucking proper and built with one thing in mind: to piss people off.
The boys then went to park the cars in their respective pit bays, giving me and the others a bit of an oppurtunity to check out what other wares were on show. My were there some badass cars out, for instance this twin turbo NSX. Words cannot describe how awesome this thing really is.
Some of the other cars I got some shots of:
Also spotted another mate out for the day, Isaac with his boosted B18 Integra. Last time I saw this, it pushed out around 310fwhp on the dyno. Definitely a well built car, his new RPF01s look the goods matched with the teal paint.
Finally got to Bobby and Dave’s garages, popped off some shots and let them do their thing. We went to the wall and watched the action unfold.
This little Mazda 323 had a very obvious rotary idle going on. Not sure what it was running, but it was damn fast.
Also spotted this 180 which my boy Sharpy had been raving about. It looks super tough, fully stripped with a full Cusco cage & sitting low on those CR Kais. The ‘MYT78’ plates definitely don’t leave much to the imagination either.
It was pushing out some fairly serious lap times as well as monstering most of the other cars in its class.
The track was way too busy for most people’s liking, definitely no PBs being broken with this kind of traffic.
Some mixed rolling shots:
Then we saw this:
Had to go get a closer look at what was by far the fastest car of the day. This 32 was absolutely annhilating everthing, 4 wheels powerslides coming onto the straight with gate on full noise; was mind blowing.
Upon closer inspection you can see that this 32 GTR has only one real purpose: racing.
The racing was then randomly broken up by some doods on some Super Motards, most people were raging. But I kinda dug watching them, I grew up around bikes so I have solid love for them. Not to mention these guys were fucking hooking around the track.
Another good mate of mine Brett was out in his N14 SSS Pulsar, running a very serious SR20VE swap, which is basically Nissans version of VTEC. It is a super fast car, was good to see it out running. TE37 <3
An awesome shot of the 21INK 180, have seen it out and about a few times.
Finally some shots of Bobby out carving, so much ridiculous love for this car.
A shot of the infamous (for all the wrong reasons) EJB16, Jono’s EJ8. Possibly the lowest car I have ever seen.
Quick snap of my chauffeur for the day, Emilio’s Eg…car has just recently got some new pews, and some new shoes.
Also here are some shots to prove these Honda boys don’t trailer their cars. Even with Jono being half an iPhone off the ground and Bobby registering a 131db exhaust level. Much love to properly streeted and tracked cars.
Hope you enjoyed the post. Definitely a lot more posts coming in the next few weeks, including of course the Downshift Top 10 of 2010.
Rory.
