Lets talk spectators. Unless you have been to a WRC round overseas in say Mexico, Portugal or the Scandinavian countries, you have no idea what you are in for. Argentina is well-known for the large crowd numbers. On the first day of competition at the Qualifying/Shakedown event there where apparently over 10,000 people, over the next few days we would see that amount increase ten-fold. Lets just say it took 4hrs to travel 52km because of spectator traffic!!
Argentinean fans are a little crazy and you have to have a thick skin when going to and from your photo points. The arrive even earlier than we do and we arrive sometimes 2 hours before the cars.. They start drinking early and from what I tasted its fairly potent. Its been known for spectators to die high in the mountains when the cold weather sets in and they stay so they don’t lose their spot. Now that’s commitment to motorsport!!
