Early morning on the 2nd of March saw us once again out at Queensland Raceway for another fantastic hour of Circuit & Coffee. As all Queenslanders know, in the last month or so, the weather has not been kind to us. This morning was no exception. On the drive out it rained nearly the whole trip, but upon reaching the track everything seemed relatively dry.
The day however was going to be very much in favour with the AWD crowd. They turned up in droves.
Evos galore.
Varun from 101 Motorsports brought out his MONSTER R33 GTR. Packing around the 1000hp mark, I don’t believe he lost a single race when he was out on track. Another amazing car to come out of that workshop.
One of my personal favourites is this immaculate R32 GTR. With an intricate cage, big brakes and an impressive power figure, it is something to keep an eye on at future events.
Whilst the AWD’s certainly had the advantage, it didn’t stop the FWD/RWD cars coming out.
520hp SR.
400hp SR.
This little felluh came out to play, but due to the weather it was simply too dangerous. The parachute may give away some of the reason it couldn’t get power to the ground in these conditions.
I even bought out my 330hp 180sx for a play.
Despite the weather, we still had around 100 cars turn up and as usual, kicked things off with the driver’s briefing.
As soon as the last car hit the track, the rain fell…. literally all of it… for the entire hour.
We welcome any street registered cars at this event, in fact we encourage first timers to come out. It’s a great opportunity to get a feel to a circuit, and whilst you’re not being timed or ‘circuit racing’ in these happy laps, it’s a great ice breaker.
Nghia’s Chaser is always a crowd drawer. Truly an all round build, it’s daily driven, makes over 450hp and looks immaculate.
Again Varun’s R33 GTR. Amazing from any angle.
Which 4 cyl AWD car do you want in the wet?
EVO?
WRX?
EVO!
WRX!
EVO EVO EVO!
+2 Cylinders please….. GTARGH!
This RX7, also from the 101 stables, was very impressive. Sounded off tap and blew flames at every chance.
As mentioned, we invite all genres of cars out to play and as such, welcomed some domestics to fight the atrocious conditions as well.
Keep an eye out in the future for a feature on this 800+hp ute.
Well presented 4 door 34.
Thanks again Matyas and the rest of the Downshift crew who work tirelessly to organise and bring you these regular events.
That brings us to a close of another successful Circuit & Coffee. Despite the weather conditions, it was a success, the feed afterwards was awesome, and we had nothing but praises from those that attended. Our next circuit event is at Norwell on the 21st of April. Look forward to seeing you there!
