The World Time Attack Challenge is one of those events that the whole team at Downshift looks forward to every year. This year, we have a great turnout from Queensland across all categories. Big names in the pro class that need to be mentioned are Nemo, Tilton, MCA, GT Auto and Mighty Mouse. Here are a few highlights of today’s racing from Andrew Foy and Sirck.
Mitsubishi were absolutely dominating, with 4 of the top 8 being various models of Evos. Here’s Pulse Racing’s matte orange one (1:30.922).
And last year’s reigning champion, Nemo-Racing (1:27.7080).
At the end of the day, the insane Tilton Interiors Evo 9 leads with a scorching 1:24.855.
Speaking of which, Suzuki-san has once again made the trip out to Australia with his insane S15. His best lap so far is 1:28.67.
I always love seeing the Japanese teams do their thing. The esprit NSX was just incredible. And so happy!
While Top Fuel shipped over their S2000. Lost for words.
That’s certainly not to say that the Aussies didn’t have some mindblowing cars. The Sutton brothers’ S15 was next-level, despite losing a bonnet during one of their hotlaps.
Gorilla Industries’ Supra looked and sounded awesome, but unfortunately Shane’s weekend came to an early end.
After a year with many complications, privateer extraordinaire Rob Nguyen brought his CRX down from Brisbane to campaign for both fastest FWD and fastest NA of WTAC. Despite a few teething problems across the morning, he managed a best of 1:34.666.
The Flying 500 sounded awesome, but to be honest I was a tad disappointed. It was missing something that I haven’t quite put my finger on. Varun’s R32 GTR, 18OMU.
RH9 looked pretty similar, both in and out.
Nitto, however, looked very different.
The pits were also packed with the best of the best. R8 V10.
Race-prepped IS-F.
Heasman’s S14.
Something that I lost my mind over. I literally sat in front of the car just taking it in for about 30 minutes. This is the reason I got into cars. A mint, original Ferrari F40, with a twin-turbo 2.9L V8. Expect a full set of this car soon, as well as a feature video from Jordan.
As well as the F40, we managed to smash out a set of Gatto Nero.
As well as a short set of the Hairy Lemon Evo. More to come on both of the above.
Can’t wait for tomorrow!!
