Saturday dawned quite smoky, but that didn’t matter to us. We jumped (and by that I mean moaned and groaned and eventually rolled) out of bed and headed down to SMSP, just in time for the lap of honour. Some epic shots followed, with Foy getting up on the top of a ute for the best angle.
He was also fortunate enough to stay in the ute with some of the video guys to get some rolling shots.
By midday, Earl Bamber managed to pilot the MCA 180SX to a 1:27.367.

The Flying 500 was definitely more exciting today than on Friday. Some incredible speeds were recorded by a bunch of the guys, but the standouts for me were Trent Whyte with NITTO, and Varun with the 18OMU GT-Rs.

Surprisingly however, the top speed was taken out by a fairly tame-looking Evo 9 from Mick’s Motorsport – 255kph.
This is always my favourite time of the weekend – last runs of the Pro class. The sun is setting and everyone is winding down, but the cars are still putting down blistering times. Not only that, the light creeps into golden hour. That combined with these incredible machines – it’s love. Personally the Japanese teams are my favourite to watch, both on track and in the pits.

The Queensland-based Mighty Mouse was able to take turn 1 after the main straight without lifting. Insanity.
In the end, the day was taken out by the Australians – and 2 from Queensland! The Tilton Evo piloted by Garth Walden came in first place with 1:24.8550.
Second place getter Earl Bamber just edged into number 2 in the MCA S13 with a best lap of 1:27.3670.
Third place was taken out by last year’s champion Nemo, with Warren Luff at the helm, only just missing out on second place: 1:27.7080. Unfortunately a few other things went down with the Nemo team, explained here.
