Octane fest was held on the 13th of October at Central Queensland’s Benaraby Raceway. The event was a great success with crowds flooding in the gates. It would have been nice to see more competitors, but nonetheless it was an awesome show! From burnouts, powerskids, heads up drags, dyno comp, show and shine with DJ, 4WD comp and freestyle motocross, there was something for everyone to check out!

It was a bad start to the day for one racer as his 6L V8 powered VB Commodore got a bit tail happy and ploughed into the concrete wall at over 130kph, taking out part of the concrete wall with the impact. The driver is okay and was lucky not to be badly injured, and is already looking to start a fresh project!

The Nissan display tent drew a lot of hardcore Silvia/GTR fans, with a rare replica of the famous “King of the Mountain” R32 GTR.

The DJ was on hand all day to provide some awesome beats for spectators and entrants, giving the event a great vibe.

I then went over and checked out the Show & Shine. Gladstone’s Rhys Andrews brought out his sinister looking “Excite U” 300C sporting a set of mammoth 24” wheels and a $10,000 Option Audio sound system!

2SUS Custom Resprays brought along their Subaru WRX with its mint chrome engine bay, snakeskin interior and full sound system. This car sure drew in the crowd for the show n shine!

Troy Siebenhausen brought along his turbo VZ HSV Maloo for the dyno comp, which usually makes around the 1000rwhp mark. Unfortunately Troy and the dyno team didn’t get to lay down the full power of this beast due to loss of traction as you can see in the video at the bottom of this article.

It was then time to head over and check out the Freestyle motorcross riders, pulling some crazy tricks all day long.

The burnout comp kicked off to give entrants a feel for the competition that night.

Heads up drags were on next. This WRX was an animal off the line, having by far the hardest launch of the day! Despite that, it did get beaten by Jason Humphries in his wild 440ci HG Holden ute.

The heads up drags turned into burnouts and powerskids before too long, Here in Grant in his R33 iBOOST bagging em up for the crowd.

Ryan Borsboom gave his SS ute a trashing with it sitting on the limiter nearly the whole time!

Tyler “Stiff” Walker brought out his Cressida for a go in the heads up drags and was producing nice flames as he headed down the quarter mile.

As the smoke settled over the drag strip, entrants got ready for the last event of the day – the burnout comp.

The burnouts were by far the crowd favourite. With $600 prize money for the best burnout on offer, competitors gave their cars a thrashing! From Commodores, HSVs, Skylines and Falcons, a 4×4 and a FWD Integra, all gave it a red hot go making it a good mix for the whole crowd.

The burnouts heated up with several cars producing bulk flames to the crowd’s amazement!

This VT SS had one of the craziest ends to a burnout I have seen in a long time, with it catching alight and leaving two big fire trails on the ground!

Below are two videos I captured from the event in 1080p HD.

The event had an awesome vibe and can only get better from here on out! Cannot wait for 2013, bring it on!
